NM 121
Introduction to Web Page and Interactive Design

NM 121 introduces basic visual communication concepts that are critical to designing web pages and interactive media. Emphasis is placed on design, communication, information architecture, navigation, and authoring. The software tools used in the course are HTML and CSS (text editor), Photoshop, and Dreamweaver.

The projects and assignments required in this class are time-intensive and require an average of 9 hours each week on the computer either in this lab or on your own computer that contains the software used in the class. The Pre-requisite for this class is NM 101.

Student Learning Objectives
In this course you will:
  • Design images and text specifically for the screen
  • Write basic code for building web pages
  • Apply the basic concepts of graphic design to interactive design
  • Develop navigation strategies for moving through information
  • Identify methods for establishing information hierarchy
  • Begin to clearly communicate concepts via interactive design
  • Begin to develop a critical vocabulary for critiquing/defending interactive design work

Assignments will explore the following subjects:
  • Marketing / Branding Aesthetics
  • Experience Design
  • Information Architecture
  • Navigation / Usability
  • Interactive Design
Required Materials:
Bulldog email account -- check regularly
Student web hosting space (for posting work)
flash drive, notebook or sketchbook, graph paper, pencils, and pens
