(I am in black;
My friend is in blue.)
I felt like God said, "How do you know who you're impacting for me? You don't know. Just keep doing your best for me, and I'll take care of the rest."
How did he tell you? So this is your relationship with God, not Jesus. (correct?)
Yeah, I felt like it was the Father telling me. The Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are all three different people but one God. I don't think anybody really understands it totally. When I pray, sometimes I hear things that surprise me, that are good, and that I know I didn't make up. After a while of these things being confirmed, I come to believe it's God. It's never anything that I can prove, but since it's usually to me and for me, I don't ever really have to prove it. Sometimes he tells me things to tell other people, and those things are proved because they'll say, "How did you know that?" Or it will just come true. God does that to people to show them that he knows them and that he is alive. No, it's not the psychic network. That's somebody else talking.
Believe it or not, i know what you mean by this. I constantly feel like i am getting messages from someone or something. I address Jesus and God often in my thoughts (not cursing). I don't know why i do, just started doing it bout 5 years ago.
That's cool. It sounds like prayer. Demons can suggest thoughts too, so there are only 3 people you can be hearing: 1)yourself, your own mind 2) God, or 3) demons. Demons lie and they say things that go against the Bible. That's why it's good to know the Bible. It's a concrete piece of literature that God's given us to test the voices with.
you know... i was wondering does God like control everything... or is this like a battle with the devil?
We (humans) battle with the devil and demons because God wants us to learn how to fight (not with each other though). There's something in everyone that wants to fight evil, and that's good. We get confused though, when we fight each other instead of the devil. Here's a part about how to fight spiritually...
"10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints."
There's another verse that says "Be excellent at what is good. Be innocent of evil. And the God of peace will soon crush Satan underneath your feet." So God could just destroy the devil and demons at any moment. Remember, God is uncreated. He is; he has always existed. That's a mind-blower.
yes... this kind of thought even exist in physics and calculus in weird ways... infinity and infinite limit concepts, circle math, and other stuff. it definitely almost seems beyond our comprehension.
But the devil is just a created being, created by God. In the end, when the devil gets thrown into the lake of fire for good, God will send an angel to do it. God doesn't even go himself. So it's not like there's a good god and an evil god and who will win. God's the man. He just keeps the devil around to train us. It's like he's using the devil and the devil doesn't even know it.
you said something like God wants more to work with... does he have more power to work with you if you decide to give it to him?
Definitely. And here we begin to get into one of the three holy mysteries. How can God be totally in control, and yet our decisions can affect the future? God made us in his image, and he has a free will. So now we have a free will. Here's a good practical answer: "Yes, by your decisions you can hinder, in part or completely, the power and will of God in your life." Having said that, I will say that God will intervene to save us, even when we are acting like jerks. He helps us if we just start where we are, turn to him from where we are, and say, "I'm sorry. I blew it. Please help. I'm willing to give it another shot."
Gee i wonder how many times i have said this.. about a zillion times.. i have to say that i have definitely been given some chances to start over when i was screwed hard and i often wonder if they were from God.
This guy in the Bible asked Jesus, "If it's possible, will you heal my son?" Jesus answered, "All things are possible for those who believe in God." Then the man answered, "Lord, I do believe. Please help my unbelief." I love that prayer -- I believe as much as I can, please help the rest that doubts. Jesus heled his son.
when i read this it made me feel tingley. defnitely a prayer for me who has alot of disbelief. like the super prayer for everyone.
Yeah, maybe it's enough for you right now to just keep praying that prayer.
Here is some great stuff from the Bible --
"5 This is the message we [the disciples] have heard from God and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives."
-- I John 1:5-10
Do you see what he's saying? Look at verse 9. God's not looking for perfect people. He knows what we're like. He's just looking for someone who will be honest with him about where they are. He's looking for someone who is giving it a shot, someone who will admit when they are wrong and ask him for help. It's pretty cool.
this is something i am really really striving for. i have to be honest about everything. i am tired of feeling like a fool (and also a moron, idiot, dumbass, etc...)
The more control you give to him, the more of him you get. Another verse says, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." So we do have a part to play in the dance. I'm glad, too. It means my life matters. It means I'm not just on a track. I can change the world and I can change myself. And God will do both things for me and through me. So we co-labor with him.
These are great questions you are asking. Why do we need to learn to fight the devil? I've been asking God that one a lot. Again, maybe it's so that while we're on this planet, we can help other people who are defeated by the devil and demons. I don't know why, I just know he trains our hands for war. But not war with people, you understand. We war against the enemy of the people.
Just as a point of clarification, there are three things that cause people to sin -- 1)the world, 2)the flesh, and 3)the devil. 1)The world is what you and Kristen call materialism. It's just all the things about the fallen world we live in that entice us to do wrong. 2)The flesh is all the appetites inside of you personally (or me, or any one person) that want to do wrong. A lot of times, when someone is overeating or lazy, that's just the flesh, not the devil. 3)Then there is this guy the devil (he's spirit, but he's not omnipresent and there's only one of him). Then he's got these other guys working for him called demons. They are all finite too, but they get around. Demons work in conjunction with the world and the flesh. They have a will and a mind. Some are stupid, some are smart. The devil is real smart.
Really, without the devil (and without us choosing to agree with him), there would be no evil world and we wouldn't want evil things. So the three are related, and when you see something real weird or evil (like voodoo or a big cult suicide) you can bet that demons are there on the scene.
That's sorta weird/cool (but not really cool, i guess) it is just an amazing idea to me
One of the trippy things about saying yes to the Lord, is that the more good you are doing for the Lord, the more damage you are doing to the kingdom of darkness. Consequently, demons might start bothering you more. So when you're just hanging out living like a pagan, demons are kind of for you. (Still, they can't stand to see people have fun, so it always gets worse. The drugs get less fun, the sex is less rewarding, etc.) So in some ways, when you start living right (letting God in to rule), it gets harder. But it gets better. I'd rather be opposed to the demons with God on my side than vice versa.
Incidentally, I think the devil spends a lot of time in New York and Amsterdam, and he winters in New Orleans. It's just a personal opinion of mine.
(you're probably like... read the darn bible about all this)
I think it's good to ask questions. If you want a resource to look stuff up in the Bible, go here:
It's an online concordance (it lets you search through the bible by key word). So you could go and type in demon, and it would give you everywhere in the bible that "demon" occurs. With this kind of search, once you find a single verse, I encourage you to read the other verses that surround that single verse. That way you're less likely to take something out of context.
But by all means, please keep asking me. It is a priviledge to be able to answer your questions. I love you and I want to help you in your spiritual quest in whatever way I can. I am glad that you feel free enough to ask me these things. Forgive me if my answers are long. It's just that these are important topics to me.
always remember that i am really trying to be honest with myself. i dont believe alot of things in the bible and its like because i can't help it.. so that one prayer is something i will remember... seemed to address me directly... as have many things in our conversations. The more details the better, so dont worry about long answers.
That's cool. I believe God is speaking to you. It's like they say about being mad at God, you might as well go ahead and tell him, because he already knows anyway. God has changed my mind about a lot of things since I let him be in charge of my life about 9 years ago. That's the fun of it. It's a relationship between you and God. If you have a problem with something in the Bible, you can take it to God. Sometimes people give me answers that don't make sense. But when God gives me answers, they always change my mind. Right now I am asking God a lot of questions about what is the value of suffering and what is the value of learning to fight. Job and David in the Bible asked the same questions. That's the cool thing about God, you can't freak him out. He's really cool. He always proves himself to seekers. Not pseudo-seekers; but real, humble, honest seekers. Here's some good stuff from the Bible:
" 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does."
-- James 1:5-8
This is what i am, or what i am trying not to be double minded. its just damn hard to give up pleasures and stuff you know is wrong.. damn hard!!
I think it just means ask expecting an answer. Believe that he will answer. I love that he gives generously without finding fault. Put yourself in God's shoes. If you pray to know the truth and be wise, and you are really serious, what's he going to do? "No, son, I don't want to give you wisdom. I want to trick you." Of course he is going to give you wisdom, and faith, and any other good thing you ask for.
cool. just what i need. i actually prayed the whole time i ran today... it really felt good at the end (really)... basically i asked god to fill my lungs will clensing air... it was actually fun... i imagined my life as a long run with god giving me strength... and i got strength... it was cool and i was surprised at how i felt for the next couple of hours
