DAY 14: Fluentum (the former Nazi military building with marble staircase) AND color plexiglass sculpture in the church: What does it take for art work installed within unique architecture to not get overwhelmed by the architeceture? Did the work at Fluentum succeed in "holding its own" in that grand space? Why or why not? Did the work in the church succeed? Why or why not? What if the Fluentum work had been installed at the church and vice-versa? Would the art pieces have still worked? Would their meanings have changed? How? ==================== Nome Gallery (black and white work that came out of the frame and onto the walls): Compare that show to the installation we saw yesterday with the paper cut out sculptures of black bodies. How were the two shows similar? How were they different? What effect did it have that the artist exceeded the picture frame borders and put things on the gallery wall itself? How would the show have been different without any text? How would it have been different if the art only included text? Would you have been able to discert the themes of the show without reading (all of) the text? How could that be possible? Did the vidoes seem like the centerpiece of the show? Why or why not? How did the videos connect with the non-video work? Which of the works on display do you think are for sale?
