DAY 5: Moving (motorized) sculptures made out of ordinary materials that made sound: Why the "poor" materials? {Sometimes if there is no "man behind the curtain," no special effects, no large budget, and yet magic still occurs, then it makes that magic all the more magic, because you can see all the parts, and yet it is still magical.} Was the installation intentionally composed? {Just because something incorporates randomness, it doesn't mean that something lacks intention. Artists can intentional employ randomness in specifically controlled ways.} What is the difference between analog and digital media? Analog and digital audio? Live audio vs. pre-recorded audio? Was this installation a "live" performance? How would it have been different if the power cords had been obvious, instead of subtly leading into the walls? Note: The video of the artist's performance in the space is here: https://www.annelyjudafineart.co.uk/exhibitions/366-rie-nakajima-air-recycle/video/ ================================= Nan Goldin (three channel video in the church about her sister's suicide): Who paid for the rental of the church space, the projectors, and all of the guards? Is she selling the video? What is she selling? Why did she make the video if she's not selling it? How would the piece be different if it were a single channel video (instead of three videos)? How would it be different if it was just stills (like a slide show)? How would it be different if there were no voice-over? If the narrative were in third person instead of first person? How would it be different without the pop songs? How would it be different if it were in a gallery instead of a church? Was this (potentially) triggering content worth watching? Why or why not? =================================== Copperfield gallery (show with the disco ball chair and the sculpture of bent pens): Did you get to see the disco ball chair turned on? What was the show about? Did you have a favorite piece? Why did you like it? How does one translate their own unique story (like being dyslexic) into a work of art for others to enter into your story or experience?
